Materials and Equipment - Paints

The tools and materials we use, can be as important as the skills and talents we possess. It can be very intimidating to walk into an art store, especially if you are a beginner. In a good art store the personnel should be able to give good advice. Unfortunately it is not always the case in all art stores. It is therefore important for you as an artist to equip yourself with the necessary knowledge before you start buying materials and equipment. Else you might end up buying too much, or the wrong materials and it is not very cheap.

Introduction

People often think that to paint with oils is more difficult than to paint with water colour or with acrylics. Maybe that perception can be attributed to the fact that oil paints are more expensive, I don't know. The fact is, it is easier to paint with oils. If your aim is to eventually be an oil painting artist, then you should start with oils. Some people think that they should rather start with acrylics and later on move on to oils. You can do that but then later on you might find it more difficult to get used to oils.

With this blog I will try to follow an outline with the content and not just post randomly. Now and then I might just do that if someone needs me to address a certain topic that is not in my outline.

The outline will look like this:
